Right, so...I got into an argument with a fellow deviant over a picture another deviant posted that was, at worst, suggestive. I will not be providing names nor links to said picture, as I had fallen into a trap of my own making. I've sent my last reply to any further things they have to say on that subject.

Anyway, the crux of it was that the picture had not been marked as mature content, making it accessible to minors and...*clears throat*..."Innocent Children". Please note the use of quotation marks. The picture was, as I said, suggestive at worst, tooth decayingly cute at best. Any kind of improper anatomical pieces were completely missing, as if the being didn't have them, and looked maybe a little sly within the picture. I will grant that the posture of the being within could be taken the wrong way, but to a corruptible innocent child? They wouldn't know about WHY that would be wrong. All they would see was a really cute picture.

The deviant I got into an argument with was pitching a fuss about improper suggestiveness and child corruption. I pointed out that it wasn't the job of the artist to prevent children from seeing their art. That job rests solely with the parents of said child. He returned fire stating the picture should have been marked as mature content, conveniently ignoring my subtle jab at WHY he's so concerned over this. I responded that the Admins have been cracking down on art that required the mature rating lately, hard. I told him, point blank, that he was arrogant for assuming he could do the Admins' job better than them. I also pointed out that complaining about the "improperness" of the picture in the comments section did nothing but get other deviants mad at him.

That argument shouldn't have happened in the first place. I should have left well enough alone. The artist had ignored him, so I should have done the same, but I didn't. I felt compelled to say something. That was my mistake.

So I decided to post this while I still could. I want to make a few thing absolutely clear.

1. I do not, in any way, condone sexual situations between minors, nor do I condone mature art aimed at garnering attention from said minors. That's not to say I believe we can completely prevent minors from getting into these situations. It's gonna happen as they gain their independence.

2. My personal belief in regards to children is that they are the future of the world. It is our job to provide them with a moral compass so that they may be better than we were, and hopefully help bring about a world that was better than it was in the previous generation.

3. I don't think a child is ever, totally, innocent. To be innocent is to be blind to the dangers of the world. That's fine when they're still learning how to live life, but when they become capable of managing themselves for at least a week without us, innocence becomes naivety and ignorance, and that makes them easily manipulated by the darker elements of our world. I refuse to let any child of mine go through life as someone else's puppet.

4. People are entitled to their own opinions. They are even entitled to loudly proclaim those opinions. But I will not condone insulting another's hard work, nor will I condone trying to force others to follow your opinions and beliefs. If you don't like something, fine, speak your piece, but be at least cordial. Ranting and raving about the stupidity and wrongness of something doesn't endear people to you, it just makes them realize you care only for yourself.

These are my beliefs. These are the rules I try to adhere to. I don't always succeed, my argument with that deviant standing as proof, but I try. I want to be someone who can help people. Seeing the relief on another's face as their burden is lifted, even if partially, is what makes me happy. Call me a sap, but I'm the product of my parents' and grandparents' hard work. That's why I felt compelled to stand up for the person this deviant insulted.

Was he wrong? No, it IS the job of the artist to mark mature piece of art as such.

Was I wrong? No, it IS the job of the parents to ensure their child is shielded properly from the more...carnal sides of human nature.

Neither of us was wrong. But the argument still happened. Why? Because we both had different ideas of what was mature and what wasn't. That was what sparked us off. It was clash of ideals. And neither of us backed down.

If that deviant happens upon this, I would like to apologize for the argument. I was wrong to continue it.
